areas, which include Cove Café, the coffee lounge, and a pool with spas, that is 18 and older all day, but children can walk through the area to get to the elevator or stateroom. But after 9 p.m., certain areas of the ship are off limits to those 18 and under.
One lounge is a piano bar, one is a sports bar/pub and one is a nightclub with dancing and other entertainment. And your host for these events will be very energetic and fun.
If your cruise takes you to Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, be prepared to be blown away. This isle in the Bahamas offers the opportunity to go snorkeling, hike or bike around the island or just relax in the sand. Like the ships, it also offers an adults-only area for even more tranquility.
If you’re really excited about the idea of taking a Disney Cruise but worried about cost, let’s talk.
You can definitely find other cruises to the same destinations for less than Disney charges, but you will not get the same quality of service. Disney Cruise Line does have discounts offer available, examples include military and AAA. My best suggestion is to book your cruise as soon you know your basic wants and needs and when offers are running. Plus, there are opportunities for future cruise savings and onboard credits once you get onboard and book a book a future cruise.
Before you take off on your first Disney cruise, look online to find other tips, tricks and suggestions about your itinerary and ship. No matter what, it’s sure to be a magical journey.

rotate through to the others during your cruise. And the best part? Your serving staff rotates with you
so that you have the same head server, server and assistant server throughout your journey. On some cruises, I have arrived at my dinner table to find my drink of choice already at my place because of this.
Your rotation is printed on your stateroom key,
as is your dining time. There are two dining times, either an early seating or a late seating, and there are theater shows that are opposite your dining time so that everyone can see the theater show. Sometimes the dinner menu is coordinated with the show. With late dining, we saw the show first and had about 30-45 minutes between the show and dinner, which we usually filled by playing trivia, which seems to be
offered, on various topics, nearly three times a day on board.
Besides trivia, there also are crafts, not just for children but for the whole family, as well as seminars and presentations on different topics, sometimes related to the itinerary of the cruise, and, of course, movies.
All ships have two
theaters, the main theater where Broadway-style productions take place every night and a movie theater, which also can hold presentations. Both theaters can show films in 3D and, since Disney owns the movies, guests can watch premieres at sea, or as DCL calls them, Prem-EARS. On our
last cruise, I saw the midnight premier of “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Black Panther” before the midnight premiere, at sea, of “Avengers: Infinity War.” Both theaters were showing it, one in 2D and one in
3D, on the night before we disembarked and then again at 6 a.m. on the morning of debarkation.
ENTERTAINMENT FOR ALL
Disney also is known for the being first and once again the only cruise line to have fireworks at sea. The firework show is part of its Pirates IN the Caribbean deck party and the entire evening is all pirates, with a dinner menu, games, movies, music and even a late-night buffet that is all themed. All the characters are dressed in their best attempt at pirate attire for the evening and they stick around for photos.
As I said at the beginning, we don’t have children, but I have ventured to the children’s areas of the ship to check them out during open house sessions. I’ve had fun piloting the ship through the Caribbean
on the navigation simulators, checking out some of the toys in Andy’s Room and getting the latest intel at the Marvel Super Hero Academy.
Most of my time has been spent in the adult
