TO OUR MEMBERS
FALL EDITION 2022
A LEADER IN SAFETY
Since its founding in 1902, AAA has been leading efforts to improve and maintain safe roadways. We’ve developed numerous safety and educational programs for motorists and pedestrians of all ages throughout the years. From child passenger safety regulations and “Move Over” laws that protect roadside workers, to researching traffic safety-related issues, our goal is to protect the safety and mobility of our members through advocating for safer roads for all who share them.
AAA School Safety Patrol
Millions of school children have participated in the AAA School Safety Patrol program since its inception in 1920, including former presidents, governors, senators and astronauts. The AAA School Safety Patrol program has been praised by education and safety groups around the world for the decline in injuries and fatalities among school pedestrians ages 5 to 14 in the U.S.
AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety
Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety has made a significant impact in traffic safety research and education. The AAA Foundation has sponsored more than
200 studies about roadway safety, including topics on teen and older drivers; distracted, impaired, and drowsy driving; road rage; and studies on advanced driver assistance systems.
Slow Down, Move Over
In recent years, AAA has been instrumental in bringing awareness to and supporting “Move Over” laws that protect roadway workers – such as law enforcement officers, tow truck operators, service technicians and construction personnel – and motorists stranded on the roadside. In all 50 states, drivers are required to slow down and move over when passing emergency responders or roadway workers on the roadside.
With more than 63 million members across North America, including
56 million in the U.S., our goal is always to keep you safe on the road. While there is much more work to be done, AAA will continue in efforts to advocate, research and develop programs for safety-related issues. We look forward to being your voice and champion in safety for years to come.
