REAL ID: New Deadline
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Homeland Security has postponed the REAL-ID enforcement date from October 1, 2021 to May 3, 2023. Pennsylvania residents will need a REAL-ID compliant driver’s license or other form of federally-accepted identification, such as a passport, to board a domestic commercial flight or enter a federal building or military facility that requires ID.
For complete details on how to obtain a REAL-ID, go to dmv.pa.gov/REALID.
Beware of Heatstroke
With the warm weather we’re experiencing this summer, temperatures inside a car can quickly rise to dangerous levels, even on milder days. To prevent heatstroke, remember to ACT:
A – Avoid heat stroke related injury and death by never leaving your child or pet in a vehicle, even for a minute.
C – Create habits and reminders. Example: Leave an item in your back seat that you need at your next stop so you don’t forget your loved one.
T – Take action if you see an unattended child or pet in a vehicle. Call 911 and follow the dispatcher’s instructions.

Back-to-School: Did You Know?
Why aren’t there seat belts on buses?

School buses are one
of the safest forms of
transportation in the
United States, as they are
designed with different
safety features than other
passenger vehicles. In fact,
the U.S. Department of
Transportation found that
school buses are approximately seven times safer than passenger cars or light trucks.
School buses are larger and heavier than most vehicles and distribute crash force differently than cars. School buses also utilize passenger seat crash protection known as “compartmentalization,” which are flexible, padded, energy- absorbent, high seat backs in a narrow space that confine occupants in a crash. However, some smaller school buses (less than 10,000 pounds) are required to have seat belts.
Pre-school aged children should be restrained in child passenger seats when they ride a school bus. Children with special needs may also need a restraint system.
