  Before You Go
With the extreme number of promotions, deals and programs out there, choosing the right hotel for your vacation can be an exhausting task. You have scanned through countless photos of luxury, but how can you tell if a hotel will live up to its expectations or if it’s even the right hotel for you?
After you’ve figured out your budget and the type of accommodations you want, the most important question to ask yourself when choosing a hotel is “What matters most?” Below are a few features to keep in mind while looking for your preferred hotel:
Location: It is important to choose hotels that will be conveniently located to your itinerary. Most online booking engines allow you to view search results on a map of the points of interest near hotels, making it easier for you to pinpoint which you would prefer. If you like the old-school method, guidebooks are a great tool for finding hotels in certain locations.
Amenities: It’s important to know what amenities you’re expecting from a hotel.
Some people want a hotel with free breakfast while others prefer to eat at a local restaurant. If you want a place with WiFi, check to see if it’s free or for a fee and if it is available throughout the hotel or just in the common areas, like the lobby. Also, if a hotel is family, pet or eco-friendly, check to see if it meets your travel needs.
Luxury: If you are looking for distinctive, upscale places to stay, a four- or five-star hotel would suite your needs.
Loyalty Programs: If you are a frequent traveler, it may be worth your time (and money) to join a loyalty program or even frequent flier program. Many programs allow you to redeem points for hotel stays, cruises, car rentals and more.
When determining which hotel is the right one for you, it’s important to focus on what matters most to you and ignore everything else. It will waste your time if you look through every single hotel or offer, so
filtering out the ones that don’t meet your criteria will greatly reduce the amount of time you spend on this task.
