While a lot has changed in the travel industry since the dawn of the internet era, one thing remains unchanged: consumers can make the most of their travel experience by tapping the knowledge and resources of an expert travel agent.
Myth 1: It costs more to use a travel agent. Travel agents are often aware of deals, discounts, and insider information that the average traveler doesn’t know. By being a AAA member, you can get exclusive discounts through your AAA Travel Agent.
Myth 2: It costs more to book a trip through a travel agency because travel agents earn a commission. While travel agents may earn a commission, those commissions are paid through the travel companies when travel agents book their products. You, as a client, don’t pay extra.
Myth 3: Travel agents try to sell me things I don’t need.
A successful travel agent will always keep the client’s needs first. The agent will ask questions based on your travel criteria and offer the best products to meet your needs and wishes.
Myth 4: It’s hard to find a good, reliable travel agent. Reliable travel agents are everywhere. Treat finding a good travel agent the way you would look for a good hair stylist or dentist; ask for recommendations from friends and family members. Then contact the recommended agents to decide who is right for you.
Myth 5: I can book travel more easily on the internet. The internet can be a great research tool, but sorting through the saturation of information to find the best – and most trusted – travel opportunities can be overwhelming. Using a travel agent can save you time, money, and hassle.

Your Membership Use these tips to help you get better gas mileage over the
winter driving season:
Know the correct starting procedure for your car. Modern vehicles don’t require as much time to warm up before driving in the cold weather; therefore, letting your car sit and idle for an extended period of time is not needed.
Slow down. Traveling at 60 mph instead of 70 mph on your 20-mile highway commute will save you about 1.3 gallons of gas every five- day work week.
Brake less and coast more. Be alert for slowdowns and red lights ahead of you, and when possible, decrease speed by coasting rather than braking.
Lighten up the load. Heavier vehicles use more gas. Clean out those unnecessary heavy items in the passenger compartment, trunk, or cargo areas for a lighter load.
Check your tire pressure. When the temperature drops, so does your tire pressure. Proper tire pressure levels can be found in the owner’s manual or on the sticker typically located on the driver’s side door jamb.
Check the air and fuel filters at least twice a year. Dirty filters increase fuel consumption and can cause poor performance overall.
Did you know? AAA members can save at least 5¢ per gallon on every fill at participating Shell stations through the end of 2020 with no fill-up requirements. Visit AAA.com/Shell for full terms.
