Luxury means different things to different people, just as value has a different meaning to many of us.
When we think of travel, most of us want to experience luxury travel...at a fair price for our hard-earned vacation dollar.
Is it possible to combine both luxury and value? You bet it is!
For 25+years and as the host of “Let’s Talk Travel with AAA,” my travels – by land, air and sea (and yes, mostly luxury) – have taken me around the world more times than I can count.
And this is what I’ve learned and personally experienced:
If it sounds too good to be true – it usually is. You are not going to fly business class across the Atlantic for $200.00 and you’re not going to stay in a AAA 5-Diamond luxury hotel for $50.00 a night.
When it comes to travel, you mostly get what you pay for. If you want an all-inclusive luxury travel experience and decide the value for the dollar is worth your money, you should get exactly what you’ve paid for – and probably even more.
Most important (in my opinion), if you only travel by basing all aspects on the lowest possible price, you will generally be disappointed. So if it’s all about getting the cheapest airline seats, hotel rooms and cruise cabins, that’s exactly what you’re going to get.
So with this all said, how can you combine both luxury and value?
I highly recommend you (the traveler) begin
a personal, one-on-one relationship with a AAA travel expert. Once your travel agent knows your tastes, your budget and your travel availability (how flexible are you?), you’re ready to go. Travel agents get bombarded with sales, promotions and special incentives from travel vendors all around the world. If a last-minute “two-for-one” luxury cruise becomes available on Regent Seven Seas or Seabourn Cruises, and it matches your profile, pocketbook and availability, start packing!
If you’re open to taking a longer, repositioning cruise with several days at sea crossing the Pacific or Atlantic, you can sail onboard a fabulous, all- inclusive cruise line at a terrific value. The same is true about crossing the Atlantic aboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2, especially during the shoulder seasons. Or taking a land & sea tour in Alaska during the low season. If a trip to Europe is on your bucket list and you want to get the best value for your dollar, without compromising your luxury levels, don’t go

Take a Christmas Market cruise – the air and cruise cost less and it’s a magical experience. How about staying in AAA Four & Five Diamond Caribbean or Mexican resorts – or cruising to Bermuda or the Bahamas? You will always get better values the end of August through early November.
When you sit down with your AAA travel expert, have them compare the value of all cruise or resort categories. What is included? What are the extras being charged? Get all the information and then you decide.
