Help AAA Feed Our Neighbors in Need
2020 has challenged us all, but it has especially put pressure on the charitable food network. Since the pandemic hit, thousands have lost their jobs and demand for food assistance increased nearly 50 percent. Families, children, seniors and veterans have all been affected. The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank now serves more than 200,000 people each month through its network of 1,000 partners like soup kitchens, food pantries, and other organizations. More than 40 percent of the clients are seeking help for the first time.
Since March, the Food Bank has provided 30+ million meals to our neighbors in need by distributing 200,000+ crisis
response boxes filled with healthy, non-perishable foods and rescuing nearly 11 million pounds of fresh fruits, vegetables and proteins that would have otherwise gone to waste from farms, grocery stores and other outlets. The Food Bank moved more than 36 million pounds of food with the help of volunteers, including AAA Central Penn employees, who gave 18,000 hours to sort, pack and move so much food.
As the pandemic impact continues, demand is expected to remain high for months to come. No one should worry about their next meal, and with your help, Central Pennsylvania can continue to give hope to those struggling with hunger.
There are two important ways you can help: donate online to our Virtual Food Drive ($1 = 6 meals) or join AAA Central Penn and volunteer (18 years and older). All volunteer opportunities are currently taking place at the Farm Show Building in Harrisburg to allow for social distancing and minimize the risk of exposure for staff and volunteers.
