AAANOW!
Shrouded in ancient mysteries, Egypt is an intriguing land of mythical proportions. This is where civilization began. And it was here that science, architecture and astronomy first achieved genuine sophistication.
Cairo, which sprawls along the Nile River, is the largest city
in Africa and has been the center of Egyptian life for more than 1,000 years. The bustling lifestyle of Cairo’s citizens contrast significantly with the peaceful and majestic temples on the banks of the Nile. Wander a maze of stalls at the city market and enjoy the local cafes to get a feel for the vibrancy of the city center.
One of the best places to begin your exploration of Egypt is the expansive Grand Egyptian Museum, located just outside of Cairo on the Giza Plateau, where you can see the statues, reliefs, sarcophagi, and treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun.
Beyond Cairo, travelers often head toward Egypt’s northern coast and the country’s second largest city, Alexandria. Though Alexandria is merely 175 miles from Cairo, it is a city seemingly more Mediterranean in flavor than Middle Eastern. Discover
the city’s Hellenic roots and Greco-Roman architecture, set
in harmony with ultramodern facades like the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The setting for the stormy relationship between Cleopatra and Mark Antony, Alexandria was also the center of learning in the ancient world.
By air, venture onward to Luxor, site of Ancient Thebes and home to the expansive Karnak Temple, which was built by generations of pharaohs over a 2,000-year period. Wander through this 4,000-year-old complex of pylons and obelisks, often of near-epic proportions. From here you can take a leisurely voyage on the intriguing Nile River. Cross over to the West Bank of the Nile for a day in ancient Thebes. Explore the Valley of the Kings, including the world-renowned tombs of Tutankhamun and Ramses VI. Visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut as well as the Colossi of Memnon.
Then continue down the Nile toward Edfu and step into another world at the well-preserved Temple of Horus, where you can peruse the endless carvings of scenes depicting the power and grandeur of the pharaohs. Continuing your cruise on the Nile, you’ll reach the city of Aswan and learn about Aswan’s ancient trade of granite extractions and carving techniques.

After disembarkation, take an excursion to the Great Pyramids and timeless Sphinx at Giza, one of the seven ancient wonders
of the world. Marvel at the iconic Great Sphinx, one of the world’s oldest and largest monuments. Visitors can actually venture inside the largest Pyramid of Giza via the Robber’s Tunnel, winding through the inner chamber.
