Chairman’s Message
It gives me a great deal of pleasure to welcome our new President/CEO, Jodie Daubert, to AAA Central Penn. Jodie joined our AAA team on February 14. The Board and staff of your club look forward to working with Jodie as we continue to find ways to increase the value of the AAA member- ship card in your wallet and provide the excellent level
fatalities involve unrestrained drivers or passengers. Please take that extra two seconds to buckle up – seat belts do save lives.
Drowsy driving is also an important issue. New AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety studies show that the percentage of crashes involving drivers who are dozing off, or close to it, is eight times higher than federal estimates. Seven hours of sleep prior to driving is essential, but a recent survey by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that 35 percent of U.S. drivers sleep less than the minimum daily seven hours recommended. Just a few extra hours of sleep could keep you and yours out of the statistics. Drowsy drivers are a danger for everyone on the road.
I would like to invite you to join my wife and me on a “Hawaiian Escape,” October 14-26. We will be visiting the Big Island, Maui, Kauai, and Oahu, including Honolulu, Pearl Harbor, USS Arizona Memorial, and Punchbowl Crater – National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Iolani Palace, Diamond Head and many more exciting points of interest. Be sure to see more information on this adventure on page 24, and see your knowledgeable AAA travel agent for full details.
Wherever and however you travel, our hope is that you travel safely.

of service our members expect and deserve.
It’s invigorating to see, once again, the world around
us come to life with a show of springtime rebirth. We look forward to all that spring and summer promises
– longer, warmer days, picnics with friends and family, and vacations, to name a few. Traveling by car typically increases over the spring and summer months, and this brings to mind some statistics that are telling. Safety belts have been a success story since 1968.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Center for Statistics and Analysis has been compiling an annual estimate of lives saved since 1975. The most recent data gathered by NHTSA reveals that in 2016 seat belts in vehicles saved an estimated 14,668 lives of occupants 5 years and older. However, each year more than half of all passenger vehicle
