Family Vacations Still a Popular Priority
As families across the country eagerly await
the end of school and the beginning of summer, millions of Americans are making plans to travel with loved ones this year. According to a recent AAA survey, more than one-third of Americans
are planning to take a family vacation of 50 miles or more away from home involving two or more immediate family members in the next 12 months. Spending quality time as a family is the most important part of taking a family vacation. Either
a cross-country road trip or a dream vacation to a far-off destination, travel offers busy families the opportunity to share experiences and connect with each other in meaningful ways. While most family travelers are planning to take one or two vacations, there is a significant increase in the number of Americans who say they are planning to take three or more vacations.
The old school family road trip, visits to national parks and theme parks remain the most popular types of vacations for families planning to travel this year. To help families find the best hotels, campgrounds and restaurants, AAA’s professional inspectors have evaluated nearly 59,000 establishments across North America.
AAA is available to map out a route in advance to make the most of your road trip. So before setting out on a family vacation, contact your local AAA office for the expert advice of a trusted travel
advisor who can provide personalized service
with hotel and car rental reservations. Counselors can also provide firsthand destination knowledge including attractions along the way to create a memorable vacation experience. Drivers should plan frequent stops, about every 100 miles or two hours, to remain alert. Travelers can also download the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android. The app can be used to map a route, find the lowest gas prices, access exclusive member discounts, find AAA Approved and Diamond Rated hotels, restaurants and campgrounds, request roadside assistance and more. Trips to international destinations, going on guided or escorted tours, and ocean cruises are also popular with family travelers. Our experienced AAA travel agents are available to help plan all your family vacations.
Planning on taking Fido or Fluffy on the family vacation? Many traveling pet owners would take their pet on every vacation if they could, but many travelers report finding difficulty locating pet- friendly accommodations. Pet owners can find
all the information they need to make their pet's vacation easier and safer in "Traveling with Your Pet: The AAA PetBook," which includes more than 13,000 pet-friendly, AAA Approved and Diamond Rated lodgings and campgrounds in the United States and Canada. Available for purchase at any AAA Central Penn location, while supplies last, or online at AAA.com/PetBook. The listings include hints for transporting pets, fees, permitted pet sizes and conditions of stay for properties at every Diamond Rating level, including for pampered pets – AAA Five Diamond® Award-winning hotels. Many hotel operators have discovered the popularity of traveling with pets and are making special efforts
to accommodate the four-footed family members such as the AAA Discounts and Rewards partner Best Western, which has more than 1,900 pet- friendly properties worldwide. AAA members receive special benefits through Best Western’s exclusive rewards program, AAA Preferred Best Western Rewards.
As North America’s largest motoring and leisure travel organization, AAA provides more than
57 million members with travel, insurance, financial and automotive-related services. Visit AAA.com/family to find the AAA and Family Fun Summer Road Trip booklet for tips on having a safe and fun summer travel season.
