WITH YOU ON THE ROAD OF LIFETM
Medicare, What Are My Best Options?
With John Kubeika, VP Insurance, AAA Central Penn Insurance Agency
Q: I spend part of the year in one state and then go to another state for the winter. What’s my best Medicare option?
A: Medicare covers only about 80 percent of your healthcare costs, so it’s smart to get enhanced Medicare coverage that gives you protection if something unforeseen happens. When you live
in different states during the year or like to travel often, your best option is a Medicare Supplement plan, also called Medigap. These plans don’t base your coverage on a network. You can travel freely with enhanced Medicare coverage anywhere in the United States.
Q: Renewing my policy every year is such a hassle. I get a plan, and it seems as if little time passes before I must sign up again. Do I have another option?
A: Medicare Supplement, or Medigap, plans are automatically renewable as long as you stay current with your premiums. And it doesn’t matter if your health changes; once you have a Medigap plan, you can’t be charged a higher rate because of your changing condition. In addition, you can apply for
a policy at any time, not just during the Annual Enrollment Period.
Q: Now that I’m on Medicare, how can I keep my doctor?
A: Ask your doctor if he or she accepts Medicare patients. If your doctor does, then a Medicare Supplement plan is a good option since you can visit any doctor and hospital that participates
in Medicare. Medigap plans don’t limit you to a specific network, and you don’t need a referral to see a specialist.

Changes To Your Member Benefits
For more than 100 years, AAA has provided members with numerous services and benefits, ranging from our award-winning roadside assistance to saving money at more than 150,000 Discounts & Rewards partners. Every year, our team looks for ways to add value to your AAA membership, and this year we’re pleased to announce three new enhancements.
First, our classic roadside assistance coverage – which currently features up to 5 miles of towing to a garage of your choice – will now cover towing
to the closest AAA Approved Auto Repair (AAR) facility, regardless of the distance. This benefit applies to the nine counties within the AAA Central Penn territory, encompassing more than 80 AAR facilities. These facilities are inspected annually and obligated to provide high-quality repairs and customer service. We stand behind these facilities and recommend them to our members. All AAR facilities in our territory offer a 10% labor discount on repairs.
Second, we have expanded our 24-Hour Emergency Roadside Assistance program to include members’ bicycles. AAA will send a light-duty service vehicle, equipped with a bicycle rack, to
take you and your bike to a bicycle repair facility or your house. This new Bicycle Service is free and available to all Classic, Plus and Premier members, anywhere in the AAA Central Penn territory. There is no sign-up or enrollment process. Plus and Premier members can use any of their allotted yearly service calls for bicycle roadside assistance.
Third, we have partnered with Experian Consumer Services, a division of Experian – one of three major credit bureaus in the country – to provide an Identity Theft Monitoring program. This program will feature a number of benefits, including an Experian Credit Report, Automatic Daily Monitoring, Identity Theft Assistance, and Lost Wallet Protection, to name
a few. This is a very robust program with many personalized options. To learn more, check AAA.com/IDTheft for more details.
Over the years, we have found two benefits that are outdated, under-utilized, and of little value to our members. Therefore, the bail bond and check cashing services will be phased out by the end of the year.
Be sure to take advantage of the various benefits covered under your membership plan.
