Rediscover the Great Outdoors in
above the valley of Jackson Hole, the Grand Teton rises to 13,770 feet. Twelve Teton peaks reach above 12,000 feet and support a dozen mountain glaciers. Later, arrive at Yellowstone, America’s first national park. The iconic Old Faithful geyser and Yellowstone Lake are familiar in paintings and photographs but seeing them in person is a humbling experience.
Several other points of interest are also included in this comprehensive tour, including Salt Lake City, Utah; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Cody, Wyoming, with a stop at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West; Crazy Horse Memorial, a monument dedicated to Native Americans; and Mount Rushmore, one of the country’s most famous landmarks, where four figures carved in stone represent the first 150 years of American history.
America’s
National Parks
Since 1872, when the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act was signed into law, America’s ever-expanding national parks have become vast playgrounds for travelers seeking to reconnect with the great outdoors.
AAA Central Penn Board Chair, Rob Yelnosky, invites you to join him on a wonderful tour in June 2022 that will highlight some of America’s most iconic national parks.
The artists’ colony of Sedona, Arizona provides a perfect introduction to the Southwest’s stark and beautiful landscape and serves as a jumping off point for exploration of the Western national parks. Rock formations seem to change hue with each turn of the bend in this desert town which has long been a magnet for writers, holistic healers and artists.
To the north lies Arizona’s magnificent Grand Canyon – perhaps the most amazing geological formation in the world. The Grand Canyon, carved out over the eons by the Colorado River, affords visitors mesmerizing scenery in a kaleidoscope of colors that dance with light and shadow against the canyon’s massive walls. It’s easy to be hypnotized by the towering rock formations, lush pine forests, isolated lakes and expansive flowering meadows. An overnight stay at the Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim offers opportunity to enjoy the canyon’s scenery.
At Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah, take in spectacular views of giant natural amphitheaters called hoodoos, the creation of wind and water erosion over eons of time, which bring an explosion of colors to the scene. This is Utah’s smallest national park, yet it is visited by nearly one million tourists every summer.
In terms of sheer magnitude and color, few places on earth match the beauty of Utah’s Zion National Park. Marvel at red and white sandstone cliffs as you take a full day to explore Utah’s first national park. Climb aboard Zion’s open-air tram and wind your way alongside the Virgin River and through the 2,400-foot-deep, half-mile-wide Zion Canyon.
In route to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, pass through Grand Teton National Park. Towering more than a mile
