REAL ID
Deadline Extended Until 2023
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Homeland
Security has extended the REAL ID enforcement deadline until May 3, 2023. This extends the deadline by which Americans will be required to have REAL ID compliant credentials to board domestic
flights.
The REAL ID Act established minimum
security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards and prohibits federal agencies from accepting for official purposes licenses and ID cards from states that do not meet these standards.
Beginning May 3, 2023, every state and territory resident will need to present a REAL ID compliant license or Identification card, or another acceptable form of ID when boarding commercial aircraft, including those flying routes within the United States, accessing federal facilities, or entering a nuclear plant. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) considers a current passport or military ID as alternate forms of acceptable ID for boarding an aircraft.
