TRAVEL
Scenic Scandinavia
A subregion of northern Europe, Scandinavia is home to some of the world’s most stunning scenery. From fjords and snow-capped mountains to waterfalls and Northern Lights, Scandinavia is simply stunning. Chock full of vibrant cultures and legendary traditions, it is also a region of contrasts, be
it one of the ultra-hip cities full of sleek Scandinavian design, world-class restaurants, or the most basic of cabin living, deep in the heart of the most epic natural landscape.
The name Scandinavia comes from the Skandage body of water that lies between Norway, Sweden, and the Jutland Peninsula
of Denmark. Though sometimes used to refer to Nordic Europe, strictly speaking the term covers only those three countries.
Denmark the smallest, flattest, and most continental country of the region is famous for having the best beaches in Northern Europe, and a unique Viking heritage. As the oldest continuous monarchy in Europe, it also has a bevy of royal palaces.
The most rural of the three, Norway is famous for its deep fjords, steep mountains, and waterfalls. Notable as a popular cruise destination due to its visually impressive coast, Norway’s serenity and scenery is just as impressive when enjoyed during an inland hike or on one of its beautiful railway journeys.
Sweden is Scandinavia’s largest country with mountains in the north, woodlands in the center and plains in the south; the country also has one of the largest archipelagos in the Baltic Sea. In total the archipelago includes over 24,000 islands. Scattered over 14 of the islands is the capital city of Stockholm. Linked by bridges and canals, it isn’t surprising that it is sometimes referred to as the “Venice of the North.”
Discover a whole new world and deepen your appreciation for this vast region on a Scenic Scandinavian tour with AAA. Operating in conjunction with Trafalgar, this tour has been specifically curated to highlight some of the region’s best treasures for our members, their friends, and families.
In Copenhagen, see the Little Mermaid statue, then in Odense, view Hans Christian Anderson’s birthplace. In Bergen, walk among restored 13th-century buildings of the Hanseatic League and stroll through a fascinating fish market. Connect with locals during a “Be My Guest” dinner at a farm in Norway.
