Let’s Talk Travel: Radio Talk Show Host Sandy Fenton Shares Her Travel Advice
TM
Travel expert Sandy Fenton celebrates 23 years as the host of “Let’s Talk Travel with AAA.” A weekly radio show she created in 1993, “Let’s Talk Travel with AAA” airs every Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on WHP580, and can be found online streaming through iHeartRadio.
A broadcast veteran with nearly 37 years in the industry, Sandy Fenton hosts a one-hour weekly travel talk show that provides insights on both foreign and domestic vacation destinations. Her guests are high-level travel industry executives
and professionals, such as airline and cruise ship captains, best-selling travel authors, travel medicine doctors and well-traveled celebrities.
Here are a few of the most frequent travel questions and inquiries she receives on a regular basis:
Q. With the internet and today’s technology, is a travel agent really necessary?
A. Yes, absolutely! Especially now, with all of the domestic and foreign travel options available it’s more important than ever to have a relationship with a trusted and experienced travel agent to navigate your way through all the confusion. Once your travel agent knows your personal tastes, interests and budget, he or she will be able to match your desires and interests to a vacation that is perfectly suited for you and your family. Every day, travel agents are bombarded with sales and last-minute promotions from every type of travel/ vacation company, and they will know what is
real and what is hype. If you don’t have a go-to travel agent, call or stop by your local AAA today and make an appointment. If you’re going to be spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on a dream vacation, doesn’t it make perfect sense to have a trusted travel professional looking after you?
Q .What do you think is the best value for the dollar when it comes to cruising?
A. For my money, the all-inclusive luxury cruise lines give the best bang for the buck. Many of us want to travel in a seamless manner to exotic and enriching destinations in gracious surroundings without breaking the bank or being charged
for every glass of wine or bottle of water. From onboard personal service to the outstanding dining and amenities, I would check out Silversea, Regent Seven Seas, Crystal, Seabourn and Azamara.
I’ve sailed all of them several times and highly recommend them. Spend some time with your AAA travel agent and ask about special 2 for 1 fares, free or discounted airfare, onboard incentives
and promotions. Compare all the costs, and then you decide.
Q . Everyone we know is thinking about taking a European river cruise – what is all the fuss about?
A. Within the first hour of being onboard our first Viking Danube river cruise, I got it. To me, it’s all about the picture postcard villages and fairy-tale scenery. European waterways bring river cruisers to places less traveled and off the beaten path. You see and experience daily life in river towns and villages far from home. Riverboats take you to ancient castles, medieval abbeys, cobblestone market towns and beautiful historic cities throughout Europe. Riverboats carry fewer passengers than cruise ships, are mostly all-inclusive, and you unpack once. I cruised the Danube twice aboard Viking, which is a terrific premium brand, and sailed the Moselle and Rhine rivers on luxurious, all-inclusive Uniworld Boutique River Cruises – and loved
every minute.
Q. What are your thoughts about all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean?
A. I’ve had fantastic tropical vacations at all-inclusive resorts and highly recommend them. But once again, you must get the right advice because there are so
many all-inclusive resorts to choose from.
For instance, are you traveling with children? Many all-inclusive resorts are adults only. Do you want a quiet, romantic and refined vacation, or do you want to party all night? Do you want a land and air package? Do you want ultra-luxury with top-shelf cocktails, a butler and world-class spa treatments – or do you want a less expensive,
less “fluff and frills” resort? Before you commit, get all the answers.
Q. What is your top travel advice?
A. If there is a travel sale going on and it’s where you want to go, do not wait. Good travel sales sell out quickly. Make sure your passport is up-to-date, and if you don’t have one, get one now. If you keep putting off your travel dreams until you feel you can afford them or until you retire, you will wish you had traveled years ago. There is a trip perfectly suited for your lifestyle and your pocketbook. Trust me! Don’t wait. Who knows what tomorrow may bring. Call your AAA travel agent now and make your dreams come true!
Q. Where are you off to next?
A. We’ll be spending some time in the beautiful English Cotswolds countryside and then boarding Regent’s Seven Seas Voyager on an England, Scotland and Ireland cruise itinerary, which is one of my very favorites for scenery and exploring UK coastal towns.
