of the completion of the U.S. transcontinental railroad at Promontory Summit, Utah. Take a scenic ride behind a steam locomotive on the Heber Valley Historic Railroad; zip along modern tracks aboard the Front Runner high-speed train. Tour the Utah State Railroad Museum, Hill Air Force Base’s Aerospace Museum, Natural History Museum of Utah. Visit the Great Salt Lake, Antelope State Park, and Salt Lake City; even hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. All four nights are at a downtown Salt Lake City hotel.

Ride the rails in style in a 1920s vintage parlor car on the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad’s scenic excursion through Bucks County. Visit the Mercer Museum housing more than 40,000 early American artifacts. Tour Henry Mercer’s Fonthill Castle, decorated with handcrafted tiles. The Moravian Pottery & Tile Works is a working history museum where handmade tiles are still produced. Peddlers Village is a historic place with colonial-style buildings, award-winning gardens, and distinctive shopping and dining.
Vikings: Beyond the Legend

Voyage to a place in time when Vikings ruled the North Atlantic and sailed the seas for resources and treasures. This special exhibit at the Franklin Institute takes you to the Nordic world of Scandinavia of more than 1,000 years ago. Vikings were more than bearded barbarians in horned helmets; their true history is exposed through spectacular artifacts and hands-on activities that reveal the real Viking family and community, religion and rituals, crafts and culture, travel and trade, and the significant role of women. See a reconstructed “ghost” ship once navigated by Vikings who changed the world. A Viking-inspired lunch is included; there is free time at Philadelphia’s Reading Terminal Market for shopping and independent dinner.
