ou probably know Holland America Line as
one of the most respected names in premium
cruising – renowned for their intuitive service,
award-winning cuisine, and elegant mid-sized ships.
For more than 140 years Holland America has hosted
its guests across the high seas and in ports around
the world.
But there is one destination that Holland America is
connected to like no other – a place so grand in scale
and so rich in wild beauty and human history that it is
often referred to simply as the Great Land, otherwise
known as Alaska. AAA Central Penn has long been
partners with Holland America in Alaska, and in
2014 is featuring four of their custom programs that
combine the very best of the Great Land.
From Alaska’s iconic Inside Passage ports and the
magnificent glacier fjords of Glacier Bay and Tracy
Arm to its great interior crowned by Mt. McKinley and
Denali National Park, there are few destinations in the
world that lend themselves so naturally to combining
a cruise with an overland adventure.
Holland America was a pioneer in doing just that
– this year they are celebrating 67 years of showing
visitors the very best of the Great Land, by both
land and sea. In fact, beginning in 2014 they are
rebranding their programs that have long been
known as “Alaska cruisetours” as “Alaska Land+Sea
Journeys” to better reflect the personalized adventure
opportunities these unique vacations offer.
While Holland America’s expertise in Alaska cruise
and overland travel is well known, what you may not
know is that they are also pre-eminently qualified
to be your guide off the beaten path as well. While
the “must see” highlights in and around Denali
National Park are probably what most inspires
cruise visitors to venture inland, there is so much
more to be discovered. These “seldom seen” gems,
combined with the “must see” of Denali, is the recipe
for the ultimate Great Land vacation – and it’s only
possible with Holland America Line.
The biggest gem – or “nugget” – of them all, and
one that no other cruise line offers, is the Yukon.
You may know this vast unpeopled wilderness as
the home to the Klondike Gold Rush, the last of
the great gold rushes
of the WildWest. It’s
true that the history
of that colorful era is
still palpable almost
everywhere you go in
the Yukon – but that’s
only half of the story.
This is a land larger than
the state of California but
with fewer than 35,000
people; it is truly the wild
side of the Last Frontier.
And the best part? In
2014 Holland America
will for the first time fly
guests from Fairbanks,
Alaska to Dawson City,
Yukon in the heart of
the Klondike region. This
replaces two days of
motorcoach travel and
allows more time in the
most important places.
AAA Central Penn’s
2014 exclusive Land+Sea
Journey programs will all
feature the trifecta of a
truly ultimate Great Land
adventure: an elegant
Holland America Inside Passage cruise, two or three
nights at Denali National Park, and a chance to discover
the many splendors of theYukon. Added touches such
as a lake cruise at Portage Glacier, and visits to Alyeska
Resort and the Alaska Native Heritage Center make
these custom vacations evenmore memorable.
