Self-Storage?
Moving Stuff into
Follow These Five Tips
Save time and money on move-in day with these five crucial self-storage tips from SpareFoot.
1. Confirm your moving vehicle – Many companies use moving trucks while others use anything from a trailer pulled by a pickup truck to an 18-wheeler. Make sure you know the moving vehicle type and dimensions at maximum capacity.
2. Make sure the moving vehicle fits – The storage facility may be hard to navigate for 18-wheelers. If the moving vehicle doesn’t negotiate corners well, you might have to pay extra for a shuttle truck. Ask these questions beforehand to avoid potential problems:
• Whataretheclearanceheightsandwidthsfor entering the facility and unit?
• Howdotrucksaccesstheproperty? • Whatarethetruck’sloadmaximums?
3. Give movers unloading directions – Professional movers are expert unloaders, but you’re still the boss on moving day. Tell them how you want things arranged in the unit before unloading begins.
4. Choose the right size – Figuring out how much storage space you need can be tricky, so always get advice from the facility when in doubt. If your belongings don’t fit, you also can ask about renting a second, smaller unit for the overflow.
5. Don’t move in during peak hours – People are more likely to move on weekends or after work on weekdays. If you’re paying movers by the hour, cut down on the cost by moving during weekday work hours.
