Worth the Trek
Beam me up, Scotty! Recently I had the opportunity to up the fun and actually arrived on the set in costume.
reunite with three old friends that I hadn’t seen in a while. We were all coming from different directions and needed
to decide the best place to meet. We decided to converge on Ticonderoga, New York, and we were so glad that we did! You see, we are all fans of Star Trek. In Ticonderoga, about 100 miles north of the Capital District is a re-creation of the original set of Star Trek. Superfan James
Cawley painstakingly recreated the entire set of
the Starship Enterprise.
Star Trek Original Series Set Tour offers
tours of The Bridge, Engineering, Sick Bay
and all of the rooms you may see while
watching an episode of the original space
exploration series by Gene Roddenberry.
Guests of the tour even get a chance to sit
in the captain’s chair! The set was amazing
and it is very obvious how much attention
was given to every detail. We truly felt like
we were walking on the various decks of
the famous Starship Enterprise. Our very
knowledgeable tour guide showed us around
and even divulged several of the “secrets of the set.” It was fascinating to learn of the everyday household items that were transformed into props for the show. Even more fun was returning home and trying to identify these objects while viewing episodes.
To kick it up a notch, my friends and I decided to ramp
The museum allows you to take photos while on the tour. We had a blast re-creating scenes and took many photos to preserve our memories.
After the tour, there is a gift shop with many souvenirs to choose from. I picked up a magic coffee mug that displays the crew on one side. When you add a hot liquid,
they disappear and beam to a planet on the other side of the mug. What fun! One of my companions opted for a furry Tribble instead. Whatever your preference, I’m sure you would be able to find something worthy of commemorating this spectacular tour.
Don’t worry, Picard fans – rumor has it Cawley plans to expand and re-create the ship from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Dates haven’t been announced but if it does happen, it surely will be worth the wait. Personally, I now get to watch Star Trek with a renewed perspective. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour for any fan of Star
Trek or for anyone interested in learning the behind-the-scenes workings of an iconic television series.
