Tips to Protect Your Mobile Devices and Your Bank Account
For most of us, our mobile devices are with us wherever we go. They carry around our email, personal information, social media accounts and our
banking information. On our computers, we might be diligent with security, but people tend to think of their mobile devices as being more secure than they really are. We’ve collected five tips that will help protect your mobile phone and all of that important personal information stored on it.
Enable Biometric Recognition
This is one of the easiest ways to protect your mobile device. You may be able to have both a passcode and fingerprint/facial verification to open your device. Just by adding biometric recognition to your device, you are making it harder for fraudsters to get your information if they get your phone.
Create Long, Strong Passcodes
Regarding your passcode, create one that is as long as your device will permit. An iPhone lets you set a six-digit passcode. Android lets you choose any number of digits for your passcode.
Update Your Device
Hackers take advantage of software security flaws, so it’s essential to routinely update your phone’s operating system. Not only do you need to keep the operating system updated but be sure to update all apps for security and usability.
Remotely Lock or Erase Your Data
If your mobile device is lost or stolen, remote locking can secure it. For Android devices, you can remotely lock or erase the device from your Google account. iPhone’s “Find My iPhone” app permits you to lock down the information in “lost” mode or erase the information. Be sure to also erase the device and set it to factory settings before trading in or selling, too.
Install Malware Apps
Install a malware detection app that won’t slow down your phone or drain your battery. You can find many paid and free options on Google Play or the Apple App Store.
