DRIVER EDUCATION IS A
VALUABLE RESOURCE FOR
YOUNG DRIVERS
National statistics show that young drivers are at very high risk! The following statistics indicate exactly that:
• One in five teenage drivers has a crash in the first year of driving.
• Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15- to 20-year-olds,
accounting for more than 40% of fatalities.
• Per mile driven, teen drivers ages 16 to 19 are nearly three times more likely
than drivers 20 and older to be in a fatal crash.
• Nearly half of the fatal crashes involving 16-year-old drivers were single-
vehicle crashes.
• Among 15- to 20-year-old drivers who were killed in crashes in 2012,
nearly 25% were considered intoxicated (with a blood alcohol concentration
of 0.08 or greater) and among male drivers 37% were speeding.
• For a teenage driver the presence of one passenger almost doubles the risk
of a fatal crash, compared to driving alone.
Driving schools do their research. They know exactly what the state expects on the written exam and driving test. That means they know the best ways to prepare students, including teaching everything from the basics of traffic laws and traffic signs to fundamental safety tips that will undoubtedly produce better drivers. In addition to modeling good driving etiquette and providing experienced instruction, driving schools reinforce the best practices, such as distraction-free driving tips to keep all parties alert and safe on the roads.
State certified programs follow approved curriculums providing information on topics such as: traffic rules and regulations, psychology of driving, drinking and driving, inclement weather driving, rural driving, city driving, freeway driving, natural laws, seatbelt safety, the SIPDE process, intersections, emergency situations, car maintenance, and defensive driving.
Students who complete a state certified 30-hour classroom and six hours behind the wheel training program may also be eligible for significant insurance reductions. Most insurance companies offer an average discount of 10% off rates every year for 5 years. Percentages and rates vary per insurance company. AAA Northampton County endorses David Moyer Driving School. Members are eligible for the following rebates from AAA Northampton County: $100 rebate for 10-year-plus members and a $50 rebate for less than 10-year members, once their son/daughter completes the state certified 36-hour program with David Moyer Driving School.
David Moyer Driving School has been servicing the Slate Belt and surrounding communities since 1996. Moyer Driving places great emphasis on defensive driving and prides itself on its state certified, experienced and professional staff.
Driving is a life skill that is critical for survival! Statistics show that students who have completed a 36-hour program are safer drivers that have reduced the risk factor. Completing a state certified driver education program is a no-brainer! After all rebates and insurance discounts, the program more than pays for itself. The knowledge a young student driver gains from 30-hour classroom sessions as well as six hours of professional training behind the wheel is priceless. Remember the risk factor – automobile accidents are the leading cause of death for the
16- to 24-age group!
