TRAVEL WITH SOMEONE YOU TRUST®
ROMANTIC SAN FRANCISCO & WINE COUNTRY
With its fog-enshrouded hills, grand Victorian architecture, menacing – yet mesmerizing – ocean bays and sweeping bridges, San Francisco possesses one of the most stunning cityscapes in the world.
The city’s charms do not stop there. Clamoring cable cars lumber up and down steep streets; Fisherman’s Wharf bustles with excitement over the fresh catches of the day; sea lions bark harmoniously while sunning themselves at famous Pier 39; and everywhere you turn there are those spectacular views.
Deciding where to begin your visit in San Francisco can be daunting, but you might start with a delightful seafood lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf while enjoying the seaside scenery, before tackling the sightseeing.
Be sure to also take some time to stroll the gardens of Golden Gate Park, with more than 1,000 acres of parkland. There’s plenty more to explore. Walk the streets of Chinatown and sample the fortune cookies on a tour at the Golden Gate Cookie Factory. Shop at Union Square. Visit the Cable Car Museum, a celebration of San Francisco’s rail transit history. Walk along the famed Golden Gate Bridge – but be sure to take along a jacket!
San Francisco is highly regarded for its multi- cultural culinary excellence, too, so whatever area of the city you happen to find yourself in, you’re sure
to get a meal that will not disappoint.
Where does one go from here? Just about an
hour’s drive north of San Francisco lies Northern California’s Napa and Sonoma valleys. Wine Country is a premier travel destination that has been attracting visitors from around the world since 1862, not only for the exceptional wines and dining venues, but for its glorious country scenery.
Sonoma Valley claims the rich chardonnay grape growing Carneros region as its own. Stroll historic Sonoma Plaza, flanked by the Presidio and Mission San Francisco de Solano – the last California mission built. Then, of course, visit the many wineries for some wine tasting!
In Napa Valley, a scenic drive takes you to
St. Helena, where you can tour Castello di Amorosa, a 107-room Tuscany-style castle and winery. Here, castle vintners combine traditional wine making
methods with modern technology to produce wines similar to the hand-crafted wines from Italy’s Tuscany and Umbria regions.
Train lovers can tour the Wine Country in style aboard a restored 1915 Pullman railroad car, operated by the Napa Valley Wine Train. The three-hour train ride takes passengers through historic Napa to the village of St. Helena and includes a gourmet meal.
