A TOUR OF IRELAND WITH BRENDAN VACATIONS
By Jennelyn Carrion, AAA Northampton County Travel Agent
I was grateful to experience lovely Ireland – full of culture, history, activities, and friendly people.
The direct flight from Newark into Dublin International Airport was just over six hours long. At the airport, I was met by a representative of Brendan Vacations, who transported my group to our hotel.
Day One – We were greeted at the front desk by our tour director, and later, a local guide gave us a tour around the city, which included Dublin Castle, the Temple Bar area, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Christ Church Cathedral, Trinity College and The Book
of Kells.
Day Two – We boarded a motor coach and
headed south, driving through the countryside of Waterford, Dungarvan and Ardmore. On this countryside drive you will see a plethora of sheep and several castle ruins. Blarney Castle is a must-see for everyone. Walk to the very top of the castle while viewing the old castle rooms, and kiss the Blarney Stone, which is said to give the “gift of gab.” Tour the castle grounds and view the gardens, then shop at the fudge store and Woolen Mills. We ended the night in Killarney, staying at the Killarney Plaza Hotel for two nights, and then enjoyed dinner at an Irish
pub with folk singing and dancing. Day Three – We drove to Aghadoe,
which overlooks Killarney. The view here is spectacular. Our journey took us to view the wonderful sights of the Ring of Kerry while making some scenic stops along the way, including Killarney’s National Park. There is a lot of shopping in the Killarney area, as well as lots of pubs.
Day Four – We headed north for a ferry
ride and traveled along the coast to see
the Cliffs of Moher. From there we headed
to the iconic Ashford Castle, once owned
by the Guinness family. Here you can view the beautiful castle grounds, go horseback riding, enjoy the spa amenities, and even have a go at the Falconry School, which is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and only available at a castle.
Day Five – I woke up early to walk through the garden area and take photos. After breakfast I met a dog handler and went for a walk around the grounds with Irish Wolfhounds. Later, back on the motor coach, we headed to Galway where we did some shopping around the city and enjoyed
authentic fish and chips.
We then headed back to
Dublin and took a
Guinness Store tour to
learn how the beer is made and do some tasting. Following dinner, we capped the night off touring various pubs in the Temple Bar area.
I had such a remarkable experience and learned more than I would have expected. I can’t wait to go back and share Ireland’s beautiful treasures with my family.
