For beach lovers, the island nation of the Dominican Republic enjoys a reputation as one
of the most beautiful and interesting destinations in the Caribbean. As one of the region’s most geographically diverse countries, the Dominican Republic boasts the Caribbean’s highest mountain peak, Pico Duarte, as well as the largest lake and lowest elevation, Lake Enriquillo.
On the east coast lies Punta Cana – boasting
one of the Caribbean region’s longest white sand coastlines. This is the place to be if you’re looking for a reasonably priced all-inclusive resort set on some of the most picturesque beaches in the world. This region is often referred to as the Coconut Coast due to its hundreds of swaying coconut palms scattered along 30 miles of fine white sand. The colorful waters of Punta Cana’s beaches are ideal for surfing, jet skiing, scuba diving, boating and fishing. Onshore, just as many activities can be
enjoyed, including horseback riding, jeep safaris, helicopter tours, zip-lining, and hiking to Hoyo Azul. This is also a golfer’s destination, with 110 courses scattered along the strip.
For some more unusual activities, consider these excursions:
Hoyo Azul – This lagoon, also known as the “Blue Hole,” is a cenote, a natural swimming hole. The cenote sits within Scape Park, a natural theme park located within the resort area of Cap Cana.
Marinarium – In this unique water park you can experience some of the best snorkeling in the area, complete with nurse sharks and stingrays. Enjoy
a Coco Loco as you cruise along the coast to your final stop, a waist-deep natural pool in the sea.
Dolphin Island – Enjoy friendly and safe interaction with dolphins, sea lions, sharks and stingray. Unique activities bring you up close to these aquatic animals.
Manati Park – This park offers fun for the whole family with animal shows and Taino dance performance shows.
Seaquarium Aqua Park – Scuba diving with a twist; Seaquarium is a unique tour that pairs you with a diving helmet and allows you to walk the bottom of the clear waters with an unforgettable view of reef and coral life – no certification required.
