Successful summer car travel requires significant planning and preparation. Excessive heat and traffic all contribute to auto breakdowns, traveler exhaustion and short tempers. AAA’s various automotive-related programs can help eliminate a lot of the stress involved in summer travel.
Before You Leave
Despite higher fuel costs, the personal vehicle is still used for 90 percent of vacation travel, according to AAA surveys. But setting out for a trip on a whim is something that should be avoided; instead, careful planning and preparation should be used.
The first step toward a safe, enjoyable trip is readying your car – a vital phase of the preparation process.
Convenient, Dependable Automotive Repair is Just Around the Corner
Where to take your vehicle to get it checked for summer trip driving? AAA has more than 7,000 certified and inspected AAA Approved Auto Repair facilities across the U.S. and Canada that are extensively qualified to check and repair your vehicles, so you don’t have trouble on the road.
These facilities are inspected annually by AAA for
tools, technical training, cleanliness, ASE technician certification and customer service. AAA has established these tough standards to recognize and support repair facilities that provide consistent, high-quality workmanship and to protect our members. Although non-members do not receive the same benefits as our valued AAA members, they can be as assured just as a AAA member that

You’ve Got Mail ... From AAA AutoManager
If you can’t remember when to get your vehicle serviced, AAA can help with that. Now your local AAA club can help you with a new program called AAA AutoManager. It is an online service accessed through AAA.com, where you can answer a few questions about your vehicle and driving
habits, and then AAA AutoManager will begin sending you reminder e-mails based on the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule for your vehicle and the way you drive.
Additionally, you can receive notices regarding
recalls and safety alerts related to your vehicle. You can also enter additional information to get reminders for car payments and car insurance premiums.
Roadside Assistance and Insurance
The last two things to do before you leave is
to verify your AAA membership is up to date and check your vehicle insurance with AAA Insurance to make sure you have adequate coverage for your vacation travel.
If you do have problems on the road with your vehicle this summer, AAA Roadside Assistance personnel can jump start your vehicle, replace your battery with a high-quality AAA battery in limited areas, tow it to an AAA Approved Auto Repair facility,
