CRUISING ON THE MAGNIFICENT RHINE RIVER

In November 2018 I was able
to experience a Rhine River
cruise with AmaWaterways. From
the moment you are greeted by
the attentive staff until the
moment you walk into your
beautiful stateroom you will feel at home.
An AmaWaterways cruise offers regional cuisine, well-designed cabins, and guided port stops (most included). Some of the ships’ amenities include an in-cabin On Demand entertainment center featuring complimentary internet access via an Apple IMac. Every ship is nonsmoking (except on the sun deck) and features a beauty salon and spa. Unlimited local wines, as well as beer and sodas are included with lunch and dinner.
Each cruise also features a knowledgeable cruise manager who does everything: leads shore excursions, arranges transportation, and offers running commentary during scenic cruising. Daily sightseeing programs are included with each cruise, and tours include wireless audio devices so cruisers don’t miss a word on history and culture. All ships offer bicycles that passengers can use to
explore ports on their own or participate in guided bike tours.
Entertainment is focused on local customs and culture. Performances by European dancers or an orchestral group keep passengers occupied in the evenings.
AmaWaterways offers a variety of European sailings. The line also offers sailings in Africa, Vietnam and Cambodia. I’m very happy I was able to experience the Rhine River. One of my favorite stops was Amsterdam. I was able to enjoy a canal cruise, a tour of the Anne Frank house, and eating fresh stroopwafel! AmaWaterways also offered a tour to Kinderdijk, which has no less than 19 windmills, and we were able to tour the inside of one. There were many more stops along the way where I enjoyed
sampling many different types of food and the beautiful monuments, museums and different architecture of some very charming towns.
During our stop in Breisach, Germany I went on a tour that brought me to the charming village of Riquewihr, France. Riquewihr is the inspiration for the movie “Beauty and the Beast.” It’s easy to see why Disney animators chose Riquewihr for inspiration on the movie, and even easier to see why Belle grew up with a love for fairy tales. From its bright, cheery houses to a steeple rising above the city, it is straight out of a child’s imagination.
