CRUISE&TOURSALE • JANUARY 19 - FEBRUARY 2, 2019 BUDAPEST, HUNGARY –
CITY OF BRIDGES AND SPAS
Situated on both banks of the Danube River, Budapest unites the colorful hills of Buda and the wide boulevards of Pest. It is thought by many to be one of the world’s most attractive cities. Seven of the most beautiful bridges to be found anywhere span the Danube. In fact, the iconic Chain Bridge is one of Budapest’s biggest attractions.
Budapest is also a place of great cultural and historical interest. While in the city, take time to stroll along Budapest’s Cultural Avenue, where among the interesting sights you will find many museums. Be sure to visit the Hungarian National Museum, a Neo-Classical building dating back to 1847 which holds one of the most important collections of historical artifacts and artworks. Housed within the Royal Palace is the National Gallery, which houses Hungarian artwork from the medieval era and up to the 20th century.
Bodiam Castle, constructed in 1385 to defend against a possible French invasion, is one of the most famous and most visited sights in Budapest. The castle’s fairytale exterior is perhaps its most
impressive feature, though the interior still includes a spiral staircase, battlements and portcullis.
In a section of the city where Hungarian Jews took refuge during World War II stands the Dohany Synagogue complex, the largest synagogue in Europe. The complex includes the National Jewish Museum, the Jewish Heroes’ Mausoleum and Temple, and a Memorial Garden dedicated to Jews who lost their lives during the war. The success of modern Budapest is largely attributed to the diligence of Jewish industrialists, and
this complex is an important cultural and historical site.
Though Budapest possesses scores of other
famous sights, including Fisherman’s Bastion, the
16th-century Turkish pool with original Ottoman
architecture. And after a relaxing day at the spa,
you can enjoy the exceptional cuisine of Budapest’s
many fine restaurants while accompanied by
House of Parliament, St Stephens Basilica, and
Central Market Hall, the city is especially known for
