    OAHU, HAWAII
With so many naturally beautiful features – expansive beaches, cascading waterfalls, lush gardens and mountains – Hawaii makes a perfect island getaway. The island of Oahu, the arrival point for many visitors, ideally sets the stage for a unique introduction to the Hawaiian chain of islands, which also includes Maui, Kauai, the Big Island of Hawaii, Lanai, and Molokai.
On Oahu, you will discover an eclectic blend
of ethnic and cultural diversification, important historical sites, city sights, and many natural wonders. The introduction to this island begins in the capital city of Honolulu, which buzzes with activity – high-rise hotels, high-end shopping, celebrity chef-owned restaurants, and glitzy nightlife.
Many of the hotels line famous Waikiki Beach, where surfing takes centerstage and the day’s
end is often spent gazing at the Pacific Ocean as the sun sets. In downtown Honolulu you can take a historian-guided tour of Iolani Palace, the only official royal residence in the United States, as well as a downtown tour of Honolulu that includes the
Hawaii State Capitol and historic King Kamehameha Statue at Aliiolani Hale (home to the Hawaii State Supreme Court). In the evening, many visitors partake in a luau feast with entertainment from storytellers, musicians and dancers.
While in Honolulu be sure to also spend a day at historic Pearl Harbor, home of the USS Arizona and the battleship Missouri memorial, honoring World War II military personnel. Another popular activity is hiking the trail to Diamond Head State Monument, which takes you to the edge of a 300,000-year-old crater and offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and Honolulu.
In contrast to the feverish beat of Honolulu, a drive to Oahu’s North Shore takes you to serenity,
with a slowed pace in which you can fully take in the beauty of the island. Haleiwa, the cultural hub of the North Shore, blends local style and country ambience with trendy surf shops, and roadside stands selling wind chimes and other souvenirs. Visitors to the North Shore will find a wide range of sightseeing tours and outdoor activities, including surfing, paddle boarding, and hang gliding – even swimming and diving with sharks, if you’re so inclined.
The North Shore is also home to the Polynesian Cultural Center where you can spend the day exploring the rich cultural heritage of the Pacific Islands and enjoy an authentic Polynesian luau in the evening.
