  LEAF PEEPING IN NEW YORK
 By Danielle Taylor
There is nothing like fall in New York. Cool mornings, the smell of apple crisp in the air, a family road
trip to grab warm cider donuts and, of course, the beautiful colors of the changing leaves. Fall travel may be a little different this year, but many traditions will remain the same – like your Sunday drive to take in the Adirondacks' picturesque views.
The staff at AAA Northway would like to share their yearly leaf-peeping traditions, favorite pit stops, destinations and tips to help you on your next fall adventure:
Prospect Mountain, Lake George: Whether you want to hike 5.2 miles or drive up the mountain, the sights will surely impress you with a spectacular 100-mile view.
Lake George Steamboat Company, Lake George:
A AAA Discounts & Rewards partner where AAA members can save 10% off adult and children admission offers a variety to weekday and weekend cruises.
The Cider Mill, Endicott: Offers visitors the natural goodness of pure cider and all the old-fashioned goods that complement its flavor.
Hick’s Orchard, Granville: Take the scenic ride to New York State’s oldest U-pick orchard. Fresh donuts every day and cider slushes to reward yourself after all that picking.
Aqua-Terra Wilderness Area, Binghamton: 466 acres of mostly undeveloped natural settings, including a 6-acre pond and wooded trails.
AAA MOTORCOACH TRIPS: AAA Northway offers a variety of day and overnight trips to beautiful fall destinations. Find more at AAA.com/motorcoach.
Boo at the Zoo – Oct. 3: Lots of fun any time of year, the zoo becomes truly spooktacular at Halloween time.

Ellms Family Farm
Danielle T., Administration Office: “We love to go fall camping in the Adirondacks – either in our pop-up or in a tent. We try to make a late October trip up Route 30 to see the changing leaves on the mountains. Upstate is truly a beautiful place to live.”
Andrea G., Vestal Office: “For the best sub sandwiches in the Southern Tier, you need to visit Smithville Flats General Store. The subs are absolutely huge and amazing. It also has the best homemade baked goods. It’s a nice little drive on Route 12 to Route 41 to this tiny little sleepy town. Close by is the town of Greene which has a few quaint antique shops and is about a half hour outside of Binghamton.”
Cathy F., Plattsburgh Office: “I love to hike the
trails around Paul Smith’s College VIC Trails in the
fall. Twenty-five miles of trails provide excellent opportunities to view, hear, photograph and enjoy nature in a variety of habitats. The college is a short drive to Lake Placid and Whiteface for more scenic views and a bite to eat. We have many orchards in the Plattsburgh area. Banker Orchards in Morrisonville has a small petting zoo, crafts, baked goods, a snack shack and pick-your-own apples and pumpkins to entertain the youngsters.”
Cat C., Call Center: “One of my favorite places in the fall is Ellms Family Farm in Ballston Spa. It has pick- your-own pumpkins, a jumping pillow for the kids, apple cider donuts, corn maze, a trolley ride and so much more. Super fun.”
