Walt Disney World. A magical, ever changing yet still nostalgic vacation destination. My recent travel agent training trip to Disney World in the spring showed me just that! I have been going here every few years for the past four decades. Each experience has been to the same place, yet totally different.
On this trip I was delighted to experience some of the newer rides. Animal Kingdom is different since the last time I visited in 2015. Many nighttime activities have been added. The Rivers of Light is different than any other show in Disney World. The water projections, music and floats are very entertaining. Animal Kingdom now runs the popular safari ride until dusk and many are saying that the animals are more active during that cooler part of the day. The Pandora area, dedicated to James Cameron’s “Avatar,” is truly a unique work of creative genius. Navi River is a calming and beautiful river ride. And a 3D motion simulator called Flight of Passage is like no ride you have ever experienced before.
It was exciting to see that Hollywood Studios is also undergoing a reimagining. Gone is the Magician’s Hat at the entrance and the Great Movie Ride, which is being replaced by Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway – scheduled to open in 2019. Hollywood Studios is also where you will find
Star Wars attractions and shows, and the new Toy Story Land. Disney’s Movie Magic and Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular are the new nighttime shows. But don’t worry, Fantasmic! is still at Hollywood Studios as well as Rockin Roller Coaster and the Tower of Terror. More Star Wars attractions and the new land, Star Wars Galaxy Edge, are scheduled to open in 2019.

Epcot has some new rides and will be getting more. The Frozen ride opened in 2016. The Soarin’ attraction movie has been replaced with a Soarin’ Around the World theme and the quality has been greatly improved. But the hot news is that a Guardians of the Galaxy ride will be replacing Ellen’s Energy Adventure attraction in 2021.
