Scenic Railways & Autumn Splendor in West Virginia
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work in a coal mine or on the logging trains from years ago? On this tour you’ll visit an underground mine, a coal camp, and experience the hands-on exhibitions
to gain firsthand knowledge of what life was like as a coal miner. Once part of the thriving lumber industry in the early 1900s, the Cass Railway was used to haul lumber to the mill in Cass. Climb aboard as we ride this train on a trip back to an era when steam-driven locomotives were an essential part of everyday life.
This tour is filled with rich history, unparalleled views and the sights and sounds of coal mining, early American lumbering and trains. The tour includes rides aboard the CHEAT MOUNTAIN SALAMANDER with its mountain vistas and the Durbin Rocket. The Durbin Rocket train is powered by the unique Heisler No. 6 locomotive, a coal-fired steam engine with ties to West Virginia’s historic rail and logging industry. The authentic 1920s-era coaches and vintage wooden cabooses steam along the free-flowing Greenbrier River.
The trip also includes a stop in Parkersburg for a riverboat ride to Blennerhassett Island for a guided tour of the infamous Blennerhassett Mansion.
This tour is sure to please the historian and train enthusiast with nature’s autumn beauty in the Majestic West Virginia Mountains. Come join us!
