Pros & Cons of Using Mobile Hotspot & Wi-Fi
We can all agree that Wi-Fi is an amazing technology – and having a hotspot connection can be a lifesaver – but like anything else, there are always pros and cons. Wi-Fi Calling provides the ability to call or message from almost anywhere there’s Wi-Fi access — and it doesn’t count against your data limits.
Pros
Efficiency – A mobile hotspot connection basically gives you Wi-Fi on-the-go. As long as your phone has a signal, you can provide Wi-Fi to other devices.
Accessibility – Wi-Fi is available practically anywhere. The signal makes it easy to connect to the Internet for free at a hotel, bookstore, coffee shop, restaurant, etc.
Cost-Effectiveness – There’s no need for individual data plans for all of your devices. In fact, you can just get the Wi-Fi only version on any device and connect it to your smartphone’s mobile hotspot, without paying extra.
Conserve Power – If you opt to leave Wi-Fi “off” your battery will save power.
Cons
Slower Speed – Wi-Fi via your smartphone’s mobile hotspot probably won’t be as fast as your home Wi-Fi.
Drain on Battery – Enabling mobile hotspot puts a huge drain on your smartphone’s battery.
Using up your Data Plan – Even if your secondary device connects to your mobile hotspot via Wi-Fi, your smartphone is actually using your data plan.
Things to keep in mind:
When someone is connected to your mobile hotspot, ultimately they’re using up your data plan. Also, using Wi-Fi rather than data access can yield a significant savings when it comes to battery life.
