Venture into
the Great Smoky mountainS
The Great Smoky Mountains that rise along the border between Tennessee and North Carolina inspire visitors with the scenic natural beauty of rich forestlands covering an estimated 522,427 acres.
The Great Smokies are best known as the home of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. World renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is America's most visited national park.
This September, on a three-day motor-coach trip to the Great Smokies with AAA Shelby County, you will have a wonderful opportunity to tour this magnificent park and enjoy the many bounties of country living in the surrounding communities.
Within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, CadesCove, averdantvalley
surrounded by mountains,
is one of the most popular
destinations. The first
Europeans in America settled
in Cades Cove sometime
between 1818 and 1821.
Today, the cove offers the
widest variety of historic
buildings of any area in the
national park. Scattered along
an 11-mile loop road stand
three churches, a working
grist mill, barns, log houses,
and many other faithfully
restored 18th- and 19th-
century structures. The cove also has some of the best opportunities for wildlife viewing. Large numbers of white-tailed deer are frequently seen, and sightings of black bear, coyote, ground hog, turkey, raccoon, skunk, and other animals are also possible.
venturing outside the national park, our tour takes us to charming Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where visitors can enjoy unique shops and restaurants in a lively
downtown atmosphere. One of the highlights in this town is a visit to Tennessee’s first legal moonshine distillery, Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery. A mason jar of Ole Smoky Moonshine is one of the finest souvenir in the Smokies. Sample a centuries-old family recipe and learn more about the rich history of moonshine in East Tennessee. The distillery’s authentic copper stills are always working to keep the shine flowing, and there are 15 flavors for purchase

in the bottle shop. Gatlinburg is also known
for its lively shows and great country
cooking. On this tour, you’ll enjoy both at the Hatfield
& McCoy Dinner Show, where the audience becomes part of the longest running feud in history and helps
the Hatfields and McCoys
try to settle their differences mountain style. Performances include singing and dancing, comedic acts, and amazing stunts.
AAA Shelby County also has reserved seating at the
Country Tonite Show in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. This spectacular show has won many awards, including “2001-2016 Show of the Year,”“Best Live Country Show in America” and “Best Show in the Smokies.”
Finally, on our return home, we will visit the Kentucky Artisan Center in Berea, which celebrates Kentucky’s talented artisans through sales, exhibits, displays, and special demonstrations.
