Set Your Course for a Winter Escape Cruise
The Caribbean is calling your name and winter is not the season to say no.
Let’s admit it, Central Pennsylvania is not always a comfortable place to be in winter. When next January blows its icy chill to your door, throw down your snow shovel and ice scraper, and park the snow blower in the
garage. Bid bye-bye to seasonal shivering and say hello to a bon voyage aboard a fun-in-the sun Caribbean cruise.
AAA Travel makes it easy and convenient for you
to swap winter’s woeful weather for the warmth of a sunny Caribbean cruise by including
your transfers between Central Pennsylvania and the Cape Liberty cruise terminal in New Jersey. You will be warmed by the welcoming smiles of the shipboard staff as you set sail past the Statue of Liberty on a southbound voyage to the Caribbean.
Live the life of luxury
during two relaxing and
entertaining days at sea
aboard Royal Caribbean’s innovatively awesome Anthem of the Seas. Check out the ship’s imaginative onboard activities ranging from Rip-cord by iFly skydiving, FlowRider surfing and Circus School to
the North Star above-the-sea observation capsule and the Solarium adults-only sanctuary.
These Royal Caribbean exclusives and more are plenty to regale you before arrival in the American
Caribbean port of San Juan, Puerto Rico. You
can explore Old Town San Juan with its handsomely restored buildings from the Spanish Colonial era; some are now galleries, craft shops and boutiques, others are cafes with
local cuisines influenced by Spanish or African traditions. The landmark cathedral, founded in 1521, is one of the oldest in the Americas and houses the tomb of the explorer Ponce de Leon. Tours of the 16th century El Morro Citadel provide its history and magnificent harbor views. Venture farther afield to visit the mountainous El Yunque National Forest with waterfalls, nature trails
and elevated jungle views. Check with your on-board excursions staff about riverside horseback rides, zip lines and additional active adventures, but don’t forget this colorful city also has fabulous beaches.
Your cruise continues deeper into the Caribbean chain to visit a diverse mix of islands whose current cultures reflect the countries from their historic past. One of the islands you visit has an unusual arrangement, as the island is governed by two foreign countries; this tropical retreat features two territories known as French St. Martin and Dutch Sint Maarten. A happy blend of both cultures and lack of border controls makes this double island easy to enjoy with its mix of European-Caribbean styles of beach life. Bite into tasty barbecues, sip exotic fruit juices, and stretch out on the soft sand. Aside from succumbing to the island’s alluring beaches and turquoise water, you could visit other attractions or go on an active adventure. Consider a hike to the top of Mount Concordia to stand at the French-Dutch border and take a panoramic look across the island’s two sides, surrounded by the deep blue sea.
When you visit the island of Antigua, its British heritage is especially evident at Nelson’s Dockyard in English Harbor. This natural harbor, now featuring a maritime museum, is where the British Navy’s
tall ships, commanded by Admiral Horatio Nelson, were repaired and resupplied for future voyages
in Her Majesty’s Service. Visit the restored military complex at Shirley Heights to overlook this harbor which now hosts yachts from around the globe.
The pleasant market town of St. John’s is famous
for its friendly folk who greet you as you stroll to flamboyantly colored shops and restaurants lining its streets. You can tour Betty’s Hope and its stone
