TRAVEL
       Cruise the Atlantic Coast
Aboard the Famous Queen Mary 2
What could be more fitting on the 4th of July than
being in Boston, Massachusetts, the Cradle of American Independence? AAA Central Penn invites you to join us on a celebratory Canada and New England coastal cruise aboard the elegant Queen Mary 2 July 1-8, 2022.
Travel back to Revolutionary Boston by following the famed Freedom Trail. Begin at Boston Common and follow in the footsteps of our forefathers on this 2.5-mile trail highlighting 16 of Boston’s most historical sites from the American Revolution, including Boston Common and Massachusetts State House.
Boston Harbor has always played an important role in the development, history and culture of the city. Stroll along the Boston HarborWalk, a public walkway along the water’s edge connecting the city’s neighborhoods by linking recreational, cultural and historical attractions. Enjoy pocket parks, restaurants and cafes with amazing vistas, and perhaps take a cruise to view the historic harbor.
For shopping and entertainment, head to the Faneuil Hall Marketplace, bustling with activity, or browse Newbury Street, an eclectic collection of 19th-century brownstones, upscale boutiques, sidewalk cafes and trendy galleries in the city’s historic Back Bay.
The Queen Mary 2 will also port in picturesque Bar Harbor, Maine. There’s a certain mystique about Bar Harbor. With its rugged natural beauty – a rock-bound coastline and soaring granite cliffs – this resort town has attracted adventurers since the 19th century, eventually becoming known as a summer haven for well-to-do travelers seeking cool summer breezes.
Over the years, magnificent mansions were built by the wealthy throughout Mount Desert Island, where Bar Harbor is located. Many of these mansions have since been converted into businesses. Along West Street, a National Historic District, visitors can see some of the old houses that have been carefully preserved.
Surrounded by Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor is a magnet
for nature lovers. The park contains more than 120 miles of historic hiking trails, and is home to Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the eastern seaboard. Visitors to Bar Harbor during the summer months can also enjoy whale watching at a time of year when the weather is almost always perfect for getting outside. Enjoy the seaside atmosphere of Bar Harbor on Main Street, lined with shops, boutiques and dining venues.
Halifax, Nova Scotia, welcomes visitors with its beautifully restored waterfront buildings recalling the city’s centuries-old maritime heritage. Stroll along Halifax’s thriving waterfront boardwalk, which leads to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. An extensive network of walking trails extends from the waterfront to a series of beautiful parks and gardens, inviting exploration. And be sure to explore the hilltop Halifax Citadel, a 19th century British fortress.
