SLOW DOWN, MOVE OVER

The holidays are over, and now we get back into the rush of life. Rush to work, rush home ... hurry, hurry, hurry.
Imagine this: you’re driving 70 mph on Route 81 during rush hour. You’re in the far left lane and suddenly have engine trouble and need to
get to the side. You fight your way
combined; someone is killed on average every other week. Emergency roadside assistance is at the core of AAA’s mission, and the men and women who help members when they are in need put their lives on the line daily.
AAA has recommitted its efforts to increase awareness of Slow Down Move Over laws. In Pennsylvania, laws require drivers approaching an emergency response area to pass in a non-adjacent lane or slow to a safe speed. Police, construction, firefighters, fire police – these folks all put their lives at risk not to make our commutes more challenging, but to help us in our times of need.
A new year brings new resolutions. I challenge you to commit to this resolution for 2020: Every time you see a service vehicle at the roadside, slow down and move over. Statistics show it takes three weeks to form a new habit. Won’t you let this resolution become a habit? Their lives are on your shoulders.

opportunity to exit. Cars are flying past you at 75 to 80 mph – so close and so fast that you feel your car shake each time one passes. Realizing you can’t safely exit on your side, you crawl out from under your steering wheel and into the passenger’s side to exit. You call AAA for help and hope this never happens again.
