Travel Advice
Q: My husband and I would like to celebrate our 25th anniversary in Bermuda this summer. Do you think this is a good island for a relaxed, luxury vacation and what do you recommend?
A: My first visit to Bermuda was during my 1983 honeymoon and we’ve returned 20 times since then (by sea and air) – that’s how much I love beautiful Bermuda. You are in for a real treat
with world-famous pink sand beaches, pastel island homes, easy air connections and luxury hotels. A few of my AAA Four Diamond favorites are Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa (romantic cottages with spectacular water views), the Fairmont Southampton Resort (have dinner in the historic Waterlot Inn and enjoy all the amenities at this full-service property), and Rosewood Tucker’s Point Hotel & Spa (beautiful accommodations, gracious service and Bermuda’s largest private beach). Or, you can take an elegant round-trip cruise from New York aboard upscale Oceania Cruises or a premium-class sailing with Celebrity Cruises round trip from New Jersey. Both lines offer luxury suites, excellent cuisine and special promotions to Bermuda for 2017/2018.
Q: What are some of the travel trends you are witnessing for the near future?
A: The continued popularity of domestic and foreign river cruising; all-inclusive or mostly all- inclusive land and sea vacations (no one wants to be nickel and dimed); authentic and memorable cultural experiences; traveling with a like-minded group; celebrity chefs and specialty dining on land and sea; adventure travel and expedition ships; home ports and the convenience of driving to cruise ships (especially for families); private villa rentals; multi-generational upscale vacations; and using an experienced travel agent for a higher level of satisfaction with better value for the dollar (using a travel agent increased 80% from 2015-2016).
Q: We’re ready to take our young family (ages 4 to 11) to Disney World and want to do it all without going in debt – is this possible?
A: Yes, and now is the time to contact your local AAA and make an appointment with a Certified
Disney Expert – they will have all the information you will ever need. I suspect you will want to spend time at all four theme parks using multi-day tickets at the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, and also visit the super popular water parks. Disney has five value resorts and four moderate resorts you can choose from
– and even more deluxe options if your budget allows. Be sure to ask about the Disney dining plans, flight arrangements, ground transportation and park tickets – you can book a complete package with all details taken care of. I would also recommend having a daily plan and including some down time (perhaps at your hotel pool),
and when you enter the parks, veer off to the left – most people turn to the right and it is always
more crowded.
Q: We will be taking our first trip overseas alone and want to know what are some safety tips we should follow.
A: I would begin by reading everything about your destination and leave your itinerary, plus a copy
of your passport with a family member or good friend. Be aware of any travel warnings or travel alerts to your destination. Find out if there are any health precautions and if you need any specific treatments/inoculations before leaving. Contact your credit card company and carry contact details
for the nearest U.S. embassy or U.S. consulate. Do not wander around alone, especially at night. If something doesn’t look right or sound right – leave the area. Keep your expensive jewelry at home and don’t flash a lot of cash. Watch what you eat; if you’re in a Third World country and you can’t cook it or peel it, forget it; don’t drink the water and monitor your alcohol intake. Be sure you bring any needed prescription medication and keep your passport in
a safe place. With that said, enjoy every moment of your upcoming vacation.
