get away from it all, from Bridgetown's duty-free department stores to the soft, white sand beaches of the south coast.
Dominica – Not to be confused with the Dominican Republic, Dominica (Dom-in-EEK-a) is a nature lover’s paradise. Unlike other stops on the itinerary, Dominica provides an opportunity to slow down, breathe some fresh air and take in the scenery. The island’s rugged volcanic mountains, lush rainforests, and spectacular waterfalls are the reasons that producers used this island as a backdrop for two sequels in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film series. Dominica is one of the top sites for scuba diving and whale watching in the Caribbean, as the island’s coast provides an ideal base for seven types of whales that can be seen nearly year-round.
Grenada, also called the Isle of Spice, is known for its diverse, wonderfully seasoned cuisine. Visitors will find an ample supply of ginger, cinnamon, mace, turmeric and nutmeg, as well as coconuts, bananas and some more exotic fruits such as carambola. The island offers a range of activities, including basking in the sun on the sugar-white sand of Grand Anse Beach, nature hikes to one of the islands multi-tiered waterfalls, or tours of a spice plantation or rum distillery.
With an island for every taste, this itinerary has something for everyone, and the warm tropical breezes and crystal-clear waters provide an attractive respite from the snow shovel.
AAA Members are usually a little less enthusiastic about the weather as February draws to a close, and with that in mind, AAA recommends a cruise to escape the upcoming winter weather.
Celebrity Summit, a popular ship for many
AAA Central Penn members, will cruise the Southern Caribbean, departing San Juan on February 29, 2020, making it the perfect solution for an escape. Timing couldn’t be better as the ship will experience a complete overhaul this spring, thus a winter sailing, will provide opportunity to experience all the new upgrades.
The Summit serves as a testing ground for Celebrity to pilot new dining plans, entertainment and guest experiences, so no matter how many times you sail, the Summit is bound to have something new, and for that reason the ship attracts a fair number of repeat passengers. One reason for the large number of repeat customers is the culinary experiences found onboard.
In addition, the Summit’s smaller size makes it easier for the staff to deliver consistent, quality service.
The overhauled ship isn’t the only thing about this experience that is new. In the wake of the 2017 hurricanes, many islands experienced catastrophic damage. Since then, the islands have been
busy rebuilding, with most making and adding improvements specifically geared toward tourists. Those improvements
having been completed,
the Caribbean is looking
shiny and new.
Let’s look at just a few of the islands the Summit will visit on this itinerary:
Barbados, a previous British territory, is greatly influenced by the United Kingdom, with driving on the left-hand side of the road, and afternoon tea a respected ritual. The easternmost of
the Caribbean islands, Barbados is technically in the Atlantic Ocean, and some say the freshest
air on the planet blows there. Sugarcane fields speak of the island's past, but visitors can still experience the island's heritage at a number
of plantation houses and rum distilleries. If you would rather skip the history lesson, there are plenty of places to
DISCOVER A VACATION WHERE
EVERY DAY BRINGS SOMETHING NEW.
This Caribbean island’s spectacular mountain views are the perfect backdrop for any celebration. Experience an unforgettable
day at the Diamond Botanical Gardens in Soufriere, exploring the vibrant vegetation, towering waterfalls, and soothing mineral baths. Toast to making lifelong memories as you gaze at the iconic Pitons.
