 Sharon T. Hawkins:
Supervisor of
AAA Driving School
Sharon Hawkins has been teaching at the AAA Driving School for the past 15 years and has been serving as the supervisor since 2020. She got her teaching degree and certification in drivers’ education from East Stroudsburg, serves as our local Lead AAA Driver Improvement Instructor, and is a member of the American Driver & Traffics Safety Education Association.
I have lived in southern Lancaster County for 34 years and my twins are my greatest achievement. My husband and I spent many years traveling with them for school activities and now we are empty nesters. I enjoy working my flower beds and I’m known in the neighborhood as the lady with the yard ornaments.
I re-entered the world of drivers education when my children started to drive, and it reminded me how rewarding it was to teach new drivers behind the wheel. Nothing is better than seeing new drivers build confidence behind the wheel and experience that sense of accomplishment when they earn their certification.
AAA Teams with CommunityAid
Earlier this year, AAA Central Penn formed a partnership with the local 501(c)3 non-profit organization, CommunityAid. As part of this partnership, the AAA branches
in Lancaster, Harrisburg, and Camp Hill will be accepting clothing and shoe donations at donation carts located inside the branches.
CommunityAid helps our neighbors by creating quality jobs, offering an affordable shopping experience, and supporting non-profit partners serving our local community. CommunityAid has six thrift stores located in Central Pennsylvania.
Over the years, I have developed a passion for teaching
traffic safety and enjoy time at the front of the classroom as
well. AAA National and the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety regularly update training material with new driving trends to keep the content relevant and engaging. I also enjoy helping mature operators extend their driving careers and new drivers to start out forming good habits.
I get this same feeling when I train and certify area driving school instructors. The idea that these instructors are now able to teach more drivers to prevent an accident and save lives makes me feel like I’m making a positive impact on my community.
