AAA Every Day sat down with AAA Travel Agent David Callahan to learn more about him and his experience working in travel.
AAA Every Day: How long have you been in the travel industry?
David Callahan 39 years!
AED: What is your favorite place that you have been
lucky enough to visit?
DC: One of my favorite trips was a Mediterranean cruise to Italy and Greece. I also loved Costa Rica because you get the beach, volcanos, rainforest and monkeys all in one trip! I love the Caribbean and Mexico, but now I’m looking for trips that are more educational.
AED: How about any bucket list destinations?
DC: I would like to see Africa and Asia. An African safari
would probably be on the top of my list.
AED: Do you have any particular types of destinations or packages that you enjoy booking?
DC: I’ve always enjoyed planning the perfect cruise for my clients, as well as European vacations. I think that an escorted trip is the best way for a first-time traveler to see Europe. You can concentrate on having fun and not have to worry about the planning, that’s what the tour guide
is there for that! A big advantage of a cruise is that you only have to unpack once, but you still get to see multiple destinations in one trip!
AED: Do you have any expert tips for people when they are planning this type of trip?
DC: Always plan well in advance, and be as flexible as possible with your dates. Be realistic about your budget. Know what you want to get out of your trip before meeting with your agent so they can direct you to the right type of tour or cruise package to meet your needs.
AED: Before we go, what are a couple of things your clients might not know about you?
DC: If I wasn’t a travel professional, I would love to have been a chef. I once took a skydiving course, and I am a certified scuba diver.
