The Upstate New York Food Tour Trail launched
in 2018 and offers residents and visitors alike new opportunities in food tourism. “Food tourism is
the act of traveling for a taste of place in order to
get a sense of place,” says the World Food Travel Association. The Trail is a joint venture of food tour operators from across the Hudson Valley, the Finger Lakes, and Western and Central New York, designed to encourage those with adventurous appetites to explore the bountiful food and drink of the Empire State. In addition to the exceptional cuisine, each region has its own culture and charm that are highlighted during the unique tours.

Tours are offered in nine different locations across eight counties, covering approximately 481 miles from the easternmost tour in Troy to the westernmost in Lewiston. They typically
last two to four hours and feature four to eight prepared tastings – altogether enough to replace a full meal – while allowing time in between tasting stops to showcase the history, culture and architecture of the neighborhood. Let’s take a closer look at some of the different destinations.
