These days, many of us are looking for ways to help out in the community and give back. One meaningful way to do this is by donating blood. There are many reasons to donate, but the No. 1 reason is that it saves lives.
According to the American Red Cross, blood donors help patients of all ages every
day. These patients include those battling
cancer, heart and organ transplant patients,
and burn victims. As the statistic goes, there
is someone in the United States in need of blood every two seconds. There is no substitute for blood, so by giving yours, you are directly helping people whose lives are in danger.
There are several eligibility requirements to become a donor, including donation frequency, current health condition, age and weight. Common reasons for ineligibility include cold and flu symptoms, low iron and travel to certain countries outside the U.S. Don’t get discouraged if you are ineligible, there are many other ways you can still make a difference including hosting a drive, making a financial donation or becoming a volunteer.
AAA Hudson Valley wants to do our part to help the American Red Cross by hosting two blood drives this summer. Join the AAA staff on Wednesday, May 22, and Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Albany office from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. and save up to three lives. Each blood donor at each of these drives will get $15 off a new membership, $5 off a renewal or 10-percent off at the AAA Travel Store*.
Want to be a hero? Email HR@aaahv.com and schedule your appointment today. For more information on requirements and procedures for blood donation, visit redcrossblood.org.
