PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Lend a Helping Hand
Michele Van Epps
One of life’s greatest gifts is the ability to demonstrate compassion and help others. This
is AAA’s mission. We are out in the community every day by providing Emergency Roadside Assistance. Our service drivers spend hours in extreme weather, ensuring member safety. We help adventure-seekers check things off of their bucket lists by planning and booking their dream vacations, near and far. We assist in reuniting pets and their owners with our Pet ID Tag
program. Our Traffic Safety team guides new parents through proper child safety seat installation and usage, as well as educating new teenage drivers. Additionally, we support different nonprofit and relief organizations every year, recently including the American Diabetes Association, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and Meals on Wheels.
Giving back can be extremely rewarding. Perhaps you can help seniors with things like grocery shopping, routine home maintenance, seasonal tasks like raking leaves and shoveling snow or decorating for the holidays. Everyone can help someone. Retired teachers could help kids and families that are trying to learn from home. If you are able, find a blood drive and donate. Have used and unread books taking up space on your shelves? Donate them so other people can enjoy them. How about gently used clothing in your closet? Find an organization you’d like to support and drop them off. A little bit goes a long way.
Of course, don’t forget to help yourself! Practice self-care through things like yoga and meditation. Instead of traveling to a vineyard in the Napa Valley, pour yourself a glass of your favorite white or red. Take up
a new hobby! Learn to cook and work yourself up to hosting next year’s Thanksgiving dinner. Pick up some yarn and crochet a baby blanket for your expecting friend or family member. Stay active. Start projects around the house that you have been putting off. Make each day matter.
Always be an advocate for yourself and your community and do what you can to make a difference. Start today.
