DRIVING SIMULATOR PROGRAM LAUNCHED BY AAA NORTHAMPTON COUNTY
By Ed Nelson, Traffic Safety Representative
AAA Northampton County and Moravian Academy have teamed up to enhance the driver education program for the students of Moravian Academy.
AAA Northampton County Vice President of Operations Vicki Bechtel has a mantra for the Traffic Safety Department, “Community Safety First.” She posed the question to the Traffic Safety Representatives, “What can we offer to make the roads of Northampton County safer”?
The idea for driving simulators was presented. The club could envision the benefit and two driving simulators were purchased.
Since AAA Northampton County provides Moravian Academy with a vehicle for road instruction it was an easy decision to team up again. With the coordination and cooperation of Fernando Carrizo, Moravian Academy’s driver instructor, AAA Northampton County put a simulator at the Academy to be used in their driving classes.
Fernando Carrizo and Ed Nelson, one of AAA Northampton County’s Traffic Safety
Representatives, have been working as a team to send the message to Moravian Academy’s student drivers that we are here for you, we care and want you to be safe on the roads of Northampton County.
Fernando says the simulators have been extremely beneficial for his instruction. The students can actually experience what it is like on the road and see firsthand the danger that may be encountered while driving.
AAA Northampton County will
come to local schools with a simulator to assist with driving and health classes. Contact Ed Nelson, Traffic Safety Representative, at 610-258-2371 to schedule an appointment.
AAA Northampton County also offers a class to assist parents to prepare for new teen drivers and assist elementary schools with creating Safety Patrol programs for road crossing and
bus transportation. And, for our members age
55 and over AAA Northampton County offers senior drivers risk management classes (RoadWise), which can provide a savings on your auto insurance.
