In October 2016, my husband and I had the opportunity to sail on Viking Ocean Cruises’ Viking Star, sailing from New York City to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
We enjoyed a 270-square-foot Deluxe Veranda stateroom. On this ship, every stateroom has balconies – there are no oceanview or inside cabins – and every bathroom actually has heated tile floors.
The Viking Star carries just 928 guests, and there
are many all-inclusive features, including a shore excursion in every port of call, ship-wide Wi-Fi, access to a top-rated spa, 24-hour room service, airport transfers with the purchase of Viking Air – even alternative restaurant dining is included in the fare.
Specialty dining restaurants include Manfredi’s, serving excellent Italian specialties; and The Chef’s Table, with a pre-set menu paired with wine. In addition to the main dining room, The World Café features one of the best cruise buffets I have ever seen. Outside the Café is the Aquavit Terrace, which offers al fresco dining with beautiful views.
Overall, the Viking Star is a relaxing and elegant ship that is very destination-oriented, and the staff

is top-notch. But do not expect to see a casino, loud bands or lots of shows. (In fact, you must be at least 18 years of age to sail on the ship.) One of the nicest features of the Viking Star is the Explorer’s Lounge, which we discovered has a wonderful two-story panoramic window atmosphere.
I highly recommend Viking Ocean Cruises for travelers seeking total relaxation while visiting great ports of call. If you would like to know more about this cruise line, please stop by the AAA Northampton County office to see me!
