A TRIP TO REMEMBER IN PUERTO VALLARTA By Christina Pittaro
I was able to experience firsthand why Mexico was named Travel & Leisure’s “2022 Destination of the Year.” With its rich Indigenous history, there’s so much to learn and see. From the impressive Mayan ruins to the spectacular mountain ranges, there’s more than just beaches and elaborate resorts. In November 2021, I flew to Puerto Vallarta and enjoyed
the sunshine, warm weather, amazing people, and fantastic food, as well as my first canopy tour.
Mexico is one of the few countries that does not have travel restrictions. Since my group pre-booked our shuttle service, we were greeted by Amstar DMC upon arrival and whisked off to our resort.
In less than half an hour we were checking in at
the Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort, which is located in the exclusive area of Nayarit.
This five-star luxury resort just opened in August 2021 and has all the amenities you could imagine. The large rooms offer fully stocked mini-bars, Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service. With four adults-only restaurants on-site, and an additional seven at the adjoining family friendly Dreams Resort, there
are plenty of gourmet dining choices with no reservations required and top-notch service.
There are six magnificent pools, including rooftop and infinity pools.
Although there is much
to keep you occupied at the
resort, it’s great to venture off property for a different experience. Amstar offers a variety of excursions including city tours, sunset sails, and horseback riding on the beach. But if you want more of a thrill, try hiking or riding ATVs across the Sierra Madre mountains, or take the canopy tour at Vista Paraiso, which is what we decided on, and it was the high- light of our trip. We soared 350 feet above ground on 10 different zip lines, with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and the rainforest below.
In addition, check out one of the many golf courses, including an 18-hole championship course
designed by Joe Finger. Become one with nature at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens where you can explore nearly 300 species of plants native to Mexico. With its famous sunsets, perfect beaches, and plenty of romantic spots, this is also a place to celebrate love.
