AREA THEME PARKS ADD NEW ATTRACTIONS
SIX FLAGS GREAT ADVENTURE AND SAFARI – Jackson, New Jersey
This year, Six Flags Great Adventure debuts a brand new free-fly coaster, THE JOKER. The ride features one-of-a-kind magnetic technology and unique swiveling vehicles to deliver a sensation you’ve never experienced before.
On this new adventure you’ll soar outside the confines of the track in wing cars facing other riders. You’ll take an elevator-style lift straight up 120 feet in the air. When you reach the top, you’ll begin to tumble head-over-heels, free falling down two beyond 90-degree raven drops and experiencing at least six weightless flips.
Two new shows also made their debut this spring. Versatile entertainers Cliff Woerner and Nick Spinelli blur the line between the possible and impossible as they showcase a blend of comedy, wondrous illusions and audience participation in “This Magic Moment” in Adventure Theater. In SeaFari Theater, fun and friendly animal competition featuring sea lions, pigs, otters, birds and goats take center stage in the new Wildlife Games. The theme park has also introduced new dining venues, including the Go Fresh Café, Sky Bar and Villains Café.
DORNEY PARK & WILDLIFE KINGDOM – Allentown, Pennsylvania
Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom will honor its 132 years of bringing thrills and family fun to the Lehigh Valley with a refresh to one of its most historic rides.
ThunderHawk, originally opened in 1924 as “The Coaster,” is being refurbished and will bring a bit of nostalgia back to Dorney for the 2016 season. Renovations include all new trains, and the entire coaster is being painted, reminiscent of its original design. Bright, white lights will also outline the classic wooden roller coaster, sure to remind riders of the timeless American wooden roller coasters of days gone by.
BUSCH GARDENS – Williamsburg, Virginia
Summer is the season for thrills and chills at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA. Dare to take on Tempesto, Busch Gardens’ newest roller coaster, or experience a new evening show, “All For One,” in the park’s outdoor Royal Palace Theatre. The show is a contemporary spin on the classic French tale of the three musketeers, as audiences join the trio on a quest to save king and country. This live performance embraces new technology and takes advantage of the night sky to bring guests into the story.
There’s dining news too. The current Italian restaurant (Ristorante della Piazza) in the park’s San Marco has been transformed into an international market-style restaurant for a more relaxing dining experience. The theme of the restaurant is based on the travels of Marco Polo and features classic Italian, Mediterranean and Asian entrée, salad and dessert stations. Beer aficionados will delight in a new craft beer room inside Das Festhaus serving 30 local and regional craft beers along with a variety of snacks.
