Many travelers are still wondering how hurricanes Maria and Irma have affected tourism on the Caribbean islands. The good news is that despite the destructive forces of the storms, tourism is back fully on most of the islands. Most of the large hotels have reopened and are now welcoming tourists back. Beaches Turks & Caicos reports that it reopened its door on December 14, 2017, and now offers even more dining options. Many resort hotels have also invested money into their local communities to rebuild homes and schools.
Puerto Rico, one of the hardest-hit islands, reported officially opening for tourism on December 11, 2017. More than 100 hotels are open and operating, as
well as more than 4,000 restaurants. Major tourist attractions island-wide have been cleaned up and restored, including Old San Juan, the Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Cueva Ventana. All airports
are fully restored, and ground transportation is operating as usual.
All across the islands, cruise ships are returning to their usual ports of call. In Puerto Rico, close to 60 shore excursions became available as of December 2017.

Due to the extreme damage caused by hurricanes and fires, AAA Northampton County made donations of $12,500 to the American Red Cross and $12,500 to the Salvation Army in the 4th quarter of 2017.
