Going Down Country Roads...
Join AAA Shelby County on a Tour of the Quad Cities Area
Get back to your country roots on a wonderful five- day motor coach tour of the historic Quad Cities area with AAA Shelby County.
The first stop along the way to this beautiful part of the country is the ornate Ruthmere Mansion in Elkhart, Indiana. Part historic house museum,
part world-class art collection, part
performing arts venue – this is the unique
nature of Ruthmere.
The following day, enjoy an up-
close look at the production lines and
exhibits of the John Deere Harvester
Works Factory in Moline, Illinois,
established in 1837. On a guided tour of
the sprawling John Deere Pavillion, get
a fascinating look at where agriculture, construction and forestry are heading.
Then it’s on to Isabel Bloom in Davenport, Iowa, where we’ll have the opportunity to watch artisans
as they go through the four-day process of creating an Isabel Bloom sculpture. Isabel Bloom’s belief that art should have a heartfelt, honest quality, which
she defined as "soul," was reflected in both her own sculpture and in the artworks that she collected. While
in Davenport, we’ll also visit the historic B.J. & Mabel Palmer Mansion.
Day three of the journey takes us to Donahue, Iowa
to explore Cinnamon Ridge Farms. Tour the farm’s modern-day robotic dairy barn and the hog barn to see how hogs are raised in a clean, healthy environment. In addition to raising Jersey dairy cattle, Cinnamon Ridge Farms grows corn and soy beans, and makes its own cheese. The second stop of the day is Le Claire, Iowa, home of the “American Pickers” TV show.

for home, the
journey also takes
us to Fair Oaks,
Indiana for a tour of the Fair Oaks Dairy Adventure. Hop on the cow bus to see the dairy’s free-stall barns and learn about sustainability aspects of the farm, cow nutrition, and the safety and nutrition of milk through exhibits.

National Farm Toy Museum
Ruthmere Mansion
The next day, visit Dyersville to see
the Field of Dreams, the site where the movie of its namesakes was filmed. From there we will visit the National Farm Toy Museum. This whimsical museum features thousands of toys, exhibits and displays. The museum allows visitors to discover how farming has changed throughout the years and provides the history of
the tractors that help make successful
harvests happen.
Following this museum visit, we’ll visit the National
Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. The Historical Society’s unique holdings present a comprehensive look at Native American life, settlement, boat building, commerce, river art, music, literature, and conservation.
