Chicago During the Holiday Season
During the wonderful holiday season, excitement sweeps across the Windy City of Chicago. The wintry landscape becomes aglow with bright, shimmering lights and there’s great holiday cheer as traditions are celebrated throughout the city.
One of Chicago’s biggest draws is its famous Magnificent Mile, where entertainment attractions keep visitors busy and retail experiences offer the perfect souvenirs to remember an extraordinary Chicago trip. Walk the mile while shopping popular brands including George Greene, Vince, Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet, OSKA, Galt Toys + Galt Baby, the Blackhawks Store and Chicago Cubs Clubhouse Water Tower Place. And there are many opportunities to sample sumptuous
gourmet foods.
You also won’t want to miss the opportunity to stop by Macy’s for some window shopping and perhaps a visit
to the inviting Walnut Room, a restaurant on the seventh floor, where a 45-foot-tall tree sparkles with 3,000 ornaments and 6,000 LED lights.
Chicago’s largest open-air market, Christkindlmarket, is another place filled with excitement. Inspired by a Nuremberg, Germany market that was founded in 1545, this market features iconic German items such as nutcrackers, cuckoo clocks and beer steins, as well as Christmas tree ornaments and handmade goods. Traditional German foods such as sausages, sauerkraut and potato pancakes are dished up and the drink flows freely.
If you enjoy the holiday classic “A Christmas Carol,” step into a warm and inviting theatre. The Goodman
Theatre’s annual holiday production of the Charles Dickens classic is now entering its 40th year. You can also ring in the holiday cheer with the Music Box Christmas Show, showcasing “White Christmas” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” throughout December.
For outdoor recreation, maybe you will want to
go ice skating in Millennium Park, one of Chicago’s favorite holiday traditions. The McCormick Tribune Ice Rink is open to the public for skating, and features one of the best views of the downtown skyline.
